Product Labeling

Introduction
Label Overview
Each 2 x 1″ label is typically positioned on the underside of the controller and contains the following fields:
Part Number
The part number identifies the hardware configuration of the unit. It reflects the specific bill of materials, revision level, and product variant. When ordering replacement units, requesting support, or cross-referencing documentation, always reference the part number to ensure hardware compatibility.
Serial Number
The serial number is a unique identifier assigned to each individual unit at the time of manufacture. It provides full traceability of that specific piece of hardware through production, testing, and deployment. In FlexConnect-enabled systems, the serial number may be associated with your FlexConnect ID, linking the physical unit to its cloud or connectivity profile within the Audesse ecosystem.
Software Version
The software version indicates the firmware or application software with which the device was programmed and shipped. This field is critical for verifying baseline software configuration, identifying applicable software release notes, and ensuring that any field updates are applied from the correct starting version.
Regulatory Identifiers
Where applicable, the label includes approval identifiers issued by government and regulatory bodies for wireless or radio-frequency certified products. These may include:
- FCC ID – Federal Communications Commission approval for devices operating in the United States
- IC ID – Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada certification for Canadian market devices
These identifiers confirm that the unit has passed the relevant conformity assessments and is authorized for use in the applicable markets. They must remain visible and legible for the life of the product.
Country of Manufacture
The label indicates the country in which the unit was manufactured. This information is required for customs declarations, import/export compliance, and country-of-origin documentation.
Data Matrix Encoding
The part number, serial number, and software version are all encoded together as a Data Matrix barcode on the label. This machine-readable format allows the information to be captured quickly and accurately using a standard 2D barcode scanner, eliminating manual transcription errors during receiving, assembly, calibration, or service activities.
The Data Matrix can be scanned as needed to populate inventory systems, traceability databases, or manufacturing execution systems (MES) without requiring manual data entry.
Audesse Logo
The Audesse logo is printed in the top left corner of the label. In standard production, this logo identifies the unit as an Audesse product and serves as a visual confirmation of brand and origin.
Label Material and Print Process
Audesse uses the Zebra Z-Ultimate 4000T label stock with Zebra 5095 resin ribbon to produce automotive-grade labels. This combination is specifically selected for its performance in demanding environments, providing:
- Resistance to heat, chemicals, fluids, and UV exposure
- Long-term adhesion to plastic and metal enclosure surfaces
- High-contrast, scannable printing for Data Matrix reliability
- Compliance with automotive labeling durability requirements across the full product lifecycle
White Labeling and OEM Customization
Audesse supports OEM white labeling as part of planned production programs. By default, the Audesse logo appears in the top left corner of every label. This logo can be replaced with your organization’s logo or brand mark, allowing the unit to carry your brand identity while retaining all required regulatory, traceability, and identification information.
White label customization is coordinated in advance during production planning and cannot be applied retroactively to units that have already shipped.
How to Submit Your OEM Logo
To request white labeling support, follow these steps:

Label Template (Zebra Designer 3 Format)
- Prepare your monochrome logo.
- Download the label template provided here.
- Place your logo in the top left corner of the template, replacing the Audesse logo in the designated logo zone.
- Respect all keep-out zones defined in the template. These zones protect regulatory identifiers, the Data Matrix, and other required label fields. No portion of your logo or any other artwork may extend into these areas.
- Prepare your logo file in SVG or PNG format. SVG is preferred for clean scaling at label print resolution. PNG files should be provided at high resolution to ensure print quality.
- Send the completed template file to Audesse for review. Our team will confirm that the logo placement and file format are compatible with our label production process before integrating it into your program.
Working with the Label Template
The Audesse label template is provided in a format compatible with Zebra Designer 3 software. You will need Zebra Designer 3 installed on your workstation to open, edit, and preview the label file. Zebra Designer 3 allows you to accurately visualize how the label will render at production scale and verify that your logo placement meets all dimensional requirements before submission.
