FlexCase

SSH Connection

  • Secure shell to onboard computer

This tutorial assumes that you have purchased a FlexCase with the Pro version, which includes the onboard Raspberry Pi computer, and that you are using Windows to connect. Please contact us for instructions for Mac or Linux.

Establish SSH Connection

Download and install SmarTTY. This is free software that will be used to transfer files and configure the onboard computer.

Power up the FlexCase and connect it to your computer using the Ethernet/USB interface. It can take up to a minute for the onboard computer to boot.

Open SmarTTY and start a new SSH session:

  • The default user on the Raspberry Pi is “pi”
  • Use the host name and temporary password included in your FlexCase packaging
  • Include “.local” after your hostname
  • Once connection starts, select “regular terminal” instead of “smart terminal”

If successful, you should see the following terminal for interacting with the Onboard Raspberry Pi:

For certain versions of Windows, the hostname resolution may not be fully functional. If the host name is not being resolved by your computer, you can try installing Bonjour to help your computer find local devices.

Helpful Commands

If you ever need the IP address of the FlexCase you can type ifconfig in the terminal and copy the IP address. The example below is connected via ethernet (eth0), which is the interface that is used with the included USB adapter.

Internet Setup

You can share any internet connection on your computer with the FlexCase to perform work where online access is required.

Follow the steps under: How to Share Your Internet in Windows Using Ethernet

If your computer already has an Ethernet port the FlexCase will likely be listed as Ethernet 2.
