Connector Modification

Warning: Incorrectly modifying the connector can result in damage. If you damage the connector, you are responsible for its replacement.

Removing the Secondary Lock

The secondary lock must be removed to add or remove terminals from the connectors, and can be removed by following the two stage process shown below:

Stage 1Move the tool into position, placing the tips of the tool around the tabs on the white terminal position assurance (TPA) component.

Stage 2You can pinch to tool lightly and pull the TPA from the connector housing. Some users find pivoting the tool as shown in the photo to be helpful.

Stage 3: With the TPA loose you can now pinch it with your fingers to remove the TPA completely, exposing the pins.

Removing a Terminal

There is a tab on the top of each pin that holds the pin in place. The depinning tool releases the retaining tab, so you can remove the wire.

Step 1: Insert the depinning tool into the connector until the stop on the tool hits the front of the connector face. You may hear a click as the tool moves the tab.

Step 2: You can now pull the wire from the connector.
